Should I spray all the foam I need in one pass?
This is a common question. Should you spray all of the foam you need in one pass? Or layer it on?
Well, for proper bonding and expansion, it’s best to apply the foam in layers. For our closed cell foam, spray on the foam lightly like paint (approximately 1/3rd inch in depth) and it will rise to 1 inch of cured foam.
For open cell foam, spraying a 1/3rd inch layer will rise out to about 2″ in cured depth.
Layering is better than spraying too much on in one pass, as that could cause the foam to sag (or drop if it’s overhead). If you want more than one inch, let the first layer cure (roughly 15 minutes) and then spray another light coat over the top.
